Top Tips: Creating the perfect Christmas Wreath
“Getting Ready is the Secret to Success” so first things first get everything you need and put out onto your work space.
You will need – Oasis wreath ring, glue/glue gun, wire, scissors and decorations as you see fit (dried/fresh flowers, holly, bobbles, ribbon, feathers etc)
1. Water your oasis wreath base so it keeps the flowers fresher for longer. You can do this by letting your oasis soak in the sink for few minutes.
2. If you have collected pinecones from your local woods and they have opened and dried in your hotpress – you can spray them any colour you like (gold and silver are popular at Christmas). Spray bottles can be purchased in your local hardware store. Thread wire through your pinecones and stick into oasis.
3. What you put on your wreath is up to you you can tie cinnamon sticks into bundles and insert a wire into the tie point to attach it to your wreath, same with apples, Christmas bobbles, flowers, holly and ribbon to the more modern wreaths with led fairy lights and feathers.
4. To keep things cheap this Christmas why not use the flowers from your garden – you can dry almost any flower and dried hydrangea heads look fantastic and can be sprayed once dried. Fresh red roses are a lovely addition to any wreath and with a little gem inserted into the middle, it will make your wreath sparkle.
5. If you want to make your own orange, lemon and lime slices to decorate your wreaths. Cut the fresh fruits into slices, place them on a baking tray lined with paper and bake on a low heat in the oven for 4hours or until they have dried out. Place on a wire tray and leave to dry completely which usually takes a couple of days but your kitchen will smell fantastic.
6. Finish off your wreath with a lovely tied bow and hang from your door.
7. Remember to spray your wreath once a week with water to keep it fresh.
8. Give your wreath dual function. Place it on your dining table and pop a large church candle or candelabra in the middle for an instant table decoration.
Enjoy!
